PictureLeft, Right and below: Shots of the postcard exhibit in the Blue Room of the Janette Kennedy Gallery at Southside on Lamar. Center: WCA booth at the College Arts Association convention.
Title:  Sustaining Our Environment
Dates:  February 2008
Venue:
WCA booth at the CAA Convention and at the Janette Kennedy Gallery, Fort Worth-Dallas, Texas
Exhibition Director:  Priscilla Otani

Sustain our environment! WCA's International Committee invited mail artists and artists of all media to support the UN’s Millenium Goal, “Sustaining Our Environment.” The Millennium Goal’s objectives were:
  • · Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programs; reverse loss of environmental resources
  • · Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water
  • · Achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020

Entrants were asked to submit 4”x6” or Size 6 postcards made from recycled materials that reflected the theme of “Sustaining Our Environment”.  Submissions were exhibited during the February  2008 WCA and College Art Association (CAA) annual conferences at Ft. Worth-Dallas, Texas. At the exhibition, some of the works were auctioned and raised $1100 to benefit the United Nations.
The remaining postcards will were preserved and  displayed at UN conferences.

Thanks to all who participated in "Sustaining Our Environment!"

#1 "It's in the..." Collage Card A collection of wild and wacky cards arrived from Patty Martini, NCWCA artist from San Francisco, CA. She told me the folks at the post office enjoyed mailing some these cards to me. The ones with the fake fur and buttons made them giggle. Indeed, if we are lucky, the person at the postal counter has a sense of humor and an appreciation for unsual mail!
